Happy New Year! by Aaron Walther

The Amoral Stingray is now available in the Second Thought Comics store!

Greetings, friends! I want to again thank everyone who supported the Kickstarter campaign and helped get the book into print. As I say time and time again, I am really proud of this book and I think it’s the most entertaining thing I have written, so I’m glad to finally get it out there. I hope you all enjoy it half as much as I do!

I am now in the process of getting all the Second Thought Comics books available on Comixology, which is something I never properly did when publishing under the New Haven Comics name.

New Year, New You!

With the launch of Second Thought Comics last September, it is indeed a New Me. In the spirit of a new year’s resolution, I am going to take a moment to reflect on the past and talk about the future of Second Thought Comics and what you can expect in the future.

Unless you are reading this in the far, far future (reasons for which my puny 21st century brain wouldn’t be able to comprehend), you probably don’t need me to tell you that 2020 was one heck of an abnormal year. I actually had a lot of plans for 2020, with regards to comic publishing, anyway. After a few years of laying low and only attending a few small comic conventions, 2020 was going to be my triumphant return to some of the bigger conventions I used to regularly attend.

Between American Chop Suey, The Amoral Stingray, and (the nearly completed) Uncontrollable Wreck-Lass, I had a lot of new books to promote. I was eager to hit the conventions and get my books into as many hands as possible. Needless to say, the global pandemic and following quarantine put the Kaibosh on those plans.

If there was ever a year to have a strong social media presence, and perhaps even a successful podcast, blog, or YouTube show… 2020 was it. I’ve never been particularly savvy when it comes to social media. Despite the obvious value of instant communication, I find the constant chatter of Twitter and Facebook distracting and annoying. I have also never been particularly good at blogging or podcasting because it took time and work that I would rather put towards writing and producing comics.

Strangely enough, if the strange events of 2020 taught me anything, it was to relax a little and manage my work time more efficiently.

So, what’s next?

I am still hard at work on new comics. Sara Rude-McCune and I are nearly finished with Uncontrollable Wreck-Lass. You can read it at www.wrecklasscomic.com. Then we have a yet unnamed science fiction comic in development that will begin proper production when Wreck-Lass is finished.

I am also wrapping up an older cyberpunk/noir comic with my friend and regular collaborator, Chris McJunkin, called Dogtown. The first four chapters were originally published in my science fiction anthology in 2012-2015. Now that Amoral Stingray is finished, I am going to finish the story and put it out as a single graphic novel.

I am also writing new short sci-fi novellas for Ed Bickford’s Robot Pulp series, which you can see over at www.robotpulp.com. They are available for purchase on Amazon.

I am also in talks with a friend about restarting my podcast/YouTube show, Comic DNA, but until that happens, I am going to use this blog to talk about other indie comics. I have a shelf (and a few boxes) full of 10 years worth of indie comics acquired from various comic conventions and Kickstarters. So, check back here for regular indie comic talk and writings in 2021.

Here’s to an exciting and productive year!

Robot Pulp by Aaron Walther

Greetings friends!

In case you haven’t heard, Aaron also writes short sci-fi novellas based off of Ed Bickford’s Robot Pulp series of art prints. Check em out over at Robot Pulp.com. The newest short story, Dancing in the Rain, is now available for purchase on the Amazon Kindle Store.

Here's a short blurb.

"A deadly pandemic rages across the planet. Giant Sentry Robots lumber across America’s cities, enforcing the rules of quarantine. Craig may willingly strap on his air filtration system to trudge to work each day, but he couldn’t care less about the world and its rules. He just wants to see Christine, his girlfriend trapped in isolation on the other side of the country."

If you like old school sci-fi inspired by the Golden Age of science fiction, you might like Robot Pulp!

Stretch Goal Sticker

Stretch Goal Sticker

Greetings, friends!

The Amoral Stingray is FULLY FUNDED on Kickstarter right now and we still have one week to go with the campaign. You still have time to get the book and a few extra bonus items like exclusive prints and stickers.

The Kickstarter is also a great opportunity to get some original art by Kevin Bandt, Chris McJunkin, Buster Moody, Kristofor Harris, and Greg Mc.

When the Kickstarter is finished, the book will be available in the Second Thought store, so there will still be opportunities to get it in the future, but supporting the Kickstarter now helps to cover the printing costs so I can keep the book in stock longer.

Also, if we can hit our first stretch goal, all orders will receive this rad sticker, which I know you really want!

Thanks everybody for your support. I’m really proud of this book and I know you are all going to love it.

Welcome to Second Thought Comics. Take a look around and let me know if you see anything you like. My name is Aaron and I used to self publish comics under the name New Haven Comics. You can check out the About Us page for the full story, but the short version is that I’m rebranding to the new name (Hey, I figure if Rob Liefeld can change studio names every other year, certainly I can rebrand once a decade, right?).

What this means is that I’m having a huge sale in my store! Right now both Zero’s Heroes trade paperbacks are just $10 each! That’s 300 pages of silly superhero comic action for just $20! So, if you’ve ever met me at a convention and really regretted walking away without a book (hey, it could happen), then now’s your chance to save big! Not only that, but I am also taking preorders for Zero’s Heroes Volume Three, which collects all other Zero’s Heroes comics produced up to this date!

And if you want to know what’s going on with some of the Zero’s Heroes characters right now, you can read The Uncontrollable Wreck-Lass, currently being published weekly at Tapastic. Check it out at Wrecklasscomic.com.

What else can you expect from Second Thought Comics?

Aside from a renewed focus on self publishing comics, I’ve got two short comics available in the Free Comics section and I will periodically add more in the future.

I am also gearing up to launch a crowd funding campaign for my newest comic, The Amoral Stingray. It’s a dark comedy about a mild mannered teenager who suddenly gains superpowers, but instead of becoming a hero, he goes down the path of becoming a villain! Check out the amazing cover by artist, Kevin Bandt.

Then what happens?

Once The Amoral Stingray is published, I have a whole backlog of comics in various stages of production that I am just itching to get out there, including more Zero’s Heroes, a cyberpunk sci-fi graphic novel, and my wacky take on a certain Shakespearean tragedy.

Phew, I got a lot of work ahead of me. I hope y’all enjoy it. My ultimate goal is to write and produce amazing indie comics of the type that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. So, stick around! Make yourself comfortable and Read More Comics!
