The Amoral Stingray is now available in the Second Thought Comics store!
Greetings, friends! I want to again thank everyone who supported the Kickstarter campaign and helped get the book into print. As I say time and time again, I am really proud of this book and I think it’s the most entertaining thing I have written, so I’m glad to finally get it out there. I hope you all enjoy it half as much as I do!
I am now in the process of getting all the Second Thought Comics books available on Comixology, which is something I never properly did when publishing under the New Haven Comics name.
New Year, New You!
With the launch of Second Thought Comics last September, it is indeed a New Me. In the spirit of a new year’s resolution, I am going to take a moment to reflect on the past and talk about the future of Second Thought Comics and what you can expect in the future.
Unless you are reading this in the far, far future (reasons for which my puny 21st century brain wouldn’t be able to comprehend), you probably don’t need me to tell you that 2020 was one heck of an abnormal year. I actually had a lot of plans for 2020, with regards to comic publishing, anyway. After a few years of laying low and only attending a few small comic conventions, 2020 was going to be my triumphant return to some of the bigger conventions I used to regularly attend.
Between American Chop Suey, The Amoral Stingray, and (the nearly completed) Uncontrollable Wreck-Lass, I had a lot of new books to promote. I was eager to hit the conventions and get my books into as many hands as possible. Needless to say, the global pandemic and following quarantine put the Kaibosh on those plans.
If there was ever a year to have a strong social media presence, and perhaps even a successful podcast, blog, or YouTube show… 2020 was it. I’ve never been particularly savvy when it comes to social media. Despite the obvious value of instant communication, I find the constant chatter of Twitter and Facebook distracting and annoying. I have also never been particularly good at blogging or podcasting because it took time and work that I would rather put towards writing and producing comics.
Strangely enough, if the strange events of 2020 taught me anything, it was to relax a little and manage my work time more efficiently.
So, what’s next?
I am still hard at work on new comics. Sara Rude-McCune and I are nearly finished with Uncontrollable Wreck-Lass. You can read it at www.wrecklasscomic.com. Then we have a yet unnamed science fiction comic in development that will begin proper production when Wreck-Lass is finished.
I am also wrapping up an older cyberpunk/noir comic with my friend and regular collaborator, Chris McJunkin, called Dogtown. The first four chapters were originally published in my science fiction anthology in 2012-2015. Now that Amoral Stingray is finished, I am going to finish the story and put it out as a single graphic novel.
I am also writing new short sci-fi novellas for Ed Bickford’s Robot Pulp series, which you can see over at www.robotpulp.com. They are available for purchase on Amazon.
I am also in talks with a friend about restarting my podcast/YouTube show, Comic DNA, but until that happens, I am going to use this blog to talk about other indie comics. I have a shelf (and a few boxes) full of 10 years worth of indie comics acquired from various comic conventions and Kickstarters. So, check back here for regular indie comic talk and writings in 2021.
Here’s to an exciting and productive year!
